Papua New Guinea Peaberry

This heavy-bodied Papua New Guinea peaberry coffee is packed full cocoa and dark chocolate overtones, with a healthy heap of sweet, sticky dark berry flavor. It holds up well to a dark roast, maintaining it’s syrup-like sweetness. At a medium or lighter roast, the cocoa bitterness is less pronounced, and a slight tartness and light citrus notes come through. Excellent for iced coffee & great for milk drinks.

The Lahamenegu Mill — the largest dry mill in Papua New Guinea — is located in the Eastern Highlands and serves as an essential link between local producers and lovers of coffee around the world. This coffee was sourced from the Eastern Highlands region. In the Eastern Highlands, coffee is sourced from 300 partner producers in the Henganofi sub-region.

Volcafe PNG is the only exporter to own a wet mill in PNG. Since its purchase in 1995, the Lahamenegu wet mill in the Eastern Highlands has been refreshed with brand-new machinery to take PNG cherries to the next level in quality control. While most smallholders wash and process coffee themselves and bring parchment to market, Volcafe PNG has the capability to buy in cherry and control processing consistency.

The mill’s supply chain services smallholder farms within a 30-kilometer radius and receives freshly harvested cherries daily. In addition to adapting local producers’ mindsets to approach coffee farming as a commercial business, Volcafe PNG has also invested particular focus in building traceability programs and farmer profiles for the PNG green coffee it sources.
